SEPTEMBER UPDATE - Committees & Work Plans

Greetings, and Happy Fall!

It's been a busy month for Main Street Saint Joseph with lots of discussion and planning.

Let's get to the update!

COMMUNITY SURVEY

We've seen a great response to our community survey, so thanks to those who have already shared your time and thoughts by completing it!

We're still collecting responses through Friday, September 24th, 2021 so there's still time to lend your voice! So if you haven't already...

The results of this survey will be reviewed by our board, our committees, and our state partners so that we can set additional goals based on shared community values. Thank you for lending your voice to this important process!

THIS MONTH'S ACTIVITIES & PROJECTS

As you probably already know, there are four Main Street Saint Joseph (MSSJ) Committees based on the Main Street 4-Point approach to revitalization: Organization, Promotions, Design and Economic Vitality.
  • Promotion Committee is focused on promoting downtown. Their small team of board members and volunteers are currently assessing and discussing what should be communicated or shared pertaining to the downtown district, including promoting the district as a great place to work, play, be entertained and have a great experiences. They are also looking at opportunities to educate the public on misconceptions about downtown, and highlight lesser known features. The Promotions Committee plans to meet every 3rd Thursday of the month, time TBD. If you'd like to learn more or be included on the Promotions Committee communications, contact Trevor Tutt at trevor@mo-kan.org.
  • Organization Committee is focused on growing and promoting Main Street Saint Joseph as an organization. A board members and community leaders/volunteers meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month, 6pm at City Hall. At September's meeting, the topic of discussion was who should be receiving Main Street Saint Joseph communications, and refining the org message to clarify our purpose, mission and vision in effort to build a collaborative community mindset for downtown revitalization. If you'd like to learn more or be included on the Organization Committee communications, contact Dana Ekstrum at dana.ekstrum@gmail.com
  • Economic Vitality and Design Committees are still working to organize and establish monthly meeting dates. If you'd like to be added to either of these committee communication lists, contact Dana Ekstrum at dana.ekstrum@gmail.com and you will be connected with the respective committee chair(s).
In the coming months, each committee will be tasked with identifying priorities and creating their first WORK PLANS.

ABOUT WORK PLANS

If you've been following Main Street since our Town Hall in May, you might be curious to know how all the decisions are being made and how the work will get done. Hopefully this section will provide some clarity!
  1. Committee discusses improvement opportunities within their area of focus (Organization, Promotion, Design or Economic Vitality), and gradually prioritizes these opportunities.
  2. Committee chooses a project that meets a specific goal. This is the beginning of a "Work Plan."
  3. Committee members ensure project/goals are achievable and measurable. They are specific about how success will be measured.
  4. Committee maps out Action Steps to meet the specified project goal(s).
  5. The Work Plan is presented to the Board for approval. Once approved, the Committee executes the work plan and measures its success.

Some work plans will be smaller and quickly achieved. Other will be larger and may take months or years to accomplish!

In the coming weeks and months, our Committees will be able to share our first Work Plan with the community... and perhaps there will even be volunteer opportunities to bring those plans to fruition! Stay tuned.
